AI for social media marketing: What actually works

Everyone, from creators to brands, is using AI for social media now.
96% of social media professionals use AI as part of their job, so if you're not, you're basically the one person at the party standing in the corner with a flip phone.
But most brands are using it wrong.
They're letting AI write their captions and scripts without having a human edit them and that makes them sound like a robot who read one book about authenticity and got to work.
Then their content goes out and clearly, nobody cares about it, and the brand blames the algorithm.
So what actually works?
Ideation, not generation. The top use of AI among social media professionals is brainstorming post ideas, at 78%. That's where it genuinely earns its keep. Let AI throw 20 angles at you, pick the two that don't sound like a press release, and then write those in your actual brand voice.
Repurposing at scale. One solid long-form piece can become five captions, three carousels, and a reel script. AI makes that pipeline faster. 79% of creators say AI enables them to produce more content faster. But the keyword being more and faster, not necessarily better.
Smarter targeting. AI-powered audience segmentation and ad optimisation is where the ROI comes. Companies using AI for social content report engagement rate increases of 15% to 25%.
What doesn't work. Using AI as a ghostwriter for your brand's personality is a fail. Audiences can tell and they scroll right past it.
The honest formula is using AI for speed, humans for soul.
